What Does God Say About LGBTQ and Gay Marriage?

Leviticus 26:19
“And I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass.”
The ungodly, unrighteous world has named this month Pride Month—but as we see in Scripture, pride is the problem. That’s what we’re going to talk about today.
Twenty-two years ago, President Bill Clinton declared June as “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month,” and since then, the culture has embraced and expanded that agenda. Why pride? Because they didn’t want shame. But sin is shameful, and the world tries to erase that reality.
We live in a time where shamefacedness—a biblical concept of humility and reverence—has been almost completely wiped out. This whole agenda is built on loving the world, not loving God. But a true born-again child of God loves righteousness. We don’t want to see people harmed and destroyed by sin.
No, we aren’t hateful—we are loving. We want people to turn from sin because sin is destructive. And when you examine all sin at its root, you will find pride.
The First Mention of Pride in the Bible
The first time the word pride shows up in the Bible is in Leviticus 26:19, where God says: “And I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass.”
In Leviticus 26, God gives a blueprint for Israel’s obedience and blessing, followed by disobedience and judgment. When Israel obeyed, God blessed their land, gave them peace, and reminded them that He was the one who delivered them from bondage.
But when they rejected Him, the curses came: famine, fear, and destruction. And what does God say He will do?
“I will break the pride of your power.”
Pride was Israel’s problem, and pride is still the problem today. Every single one of us had to be broken of our pride before we could come to Christ. God had to break everything we put confidence in—our power, our wisdom, our works—so we could see our need for Him.
And that’s exactly what has to happen to those lost in sin today.
Pride: The Root of All Sin
What is the problem behind the LGBTQ agenda? Pride.
What is the problem behind all sin? Pride.
Their hearts need to be broken before Christ. Making fun of them won’t change anything. They need the gospel.
Look at Leviticus 26:19 again—when God breaks pride, He stops the rain. The land becomes brass, and crops won’t grow. That’s exactly what happens to a heart hardened in sin: it becomes barren, incapable of producing life.
That’s the spiritual condition of the world today. Famine. Drought. A hardened, barren heart. The solution? They must turn from pride to humility.
A Culture That Worships Idols
Leviticus 26:1 warns against idolatry: “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image… neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.”
This world is full of idols. The LGBTQ movement is built on idolatry. Who do they worship? Themselves. Look at pop culture—so many idols in entertainment, media, and politics push this agenda, and people shape their lifestyles around them.
Romans 1:25 says, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator.”
They don’t want to worship God, so they worship themselves.
The Consequences of a Sinful Lifestyle
Statistics don’t lie. The LGBTQ community suffers from:
Higher obesity rates (a coping mechanism for deep spiritual emptiness)
Skyrocketing STD rates (HIV, herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, etc.)
Increased anxiety, depression, and suicide rates
Why? Because they have no real hope.
But here’s the thing: calling them names won’t save them. They need to hear the gospel. If you engage in any kind of public outreach, be prepared. You can’t let your flesh get in the way. If you’re only there to argue, you’ve already lost the battle.
They need to hear that sin leads to destruction. They need to hear that Christ offers hope.
The Bible’s Clear Teaching on Gender and Marriage
This world says, “I was born this way.” But what does Genesis 1:27 say? “Male and female created he them.”
That’s as simple as it gets. It’s not a complex theological term. It’s not propitiation—a word you have to study to understand. Male and female. That’s it.
Genesis 2:22-24 lays out God’s design for marriage: “The rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man… Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.”
God made man and woman to come together in a holy union. Anything outside of that is against nature.
Leviticus 18:22 makes it plain: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
And Leviticus 20:13 lays out the Old Testament punishment: “They shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
Now, let’s be clear—we are not under the Old Testament Law. Our job isn’t to go out and condemn sinners to death. They are already dead in their sins (Romans 6:23). The gospel is what they need.
Lust Is the Root Problem
James 1:14-15 explains: “Every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
What leads to sin? Lust.
What leads to death? Sin.
Romans 1:26-27 shows what happens when people reject God: “God gave them up unto vile affections… men with men working that which is unseemly.”
What does God do? He gives them over to what they want. If they reject Him long enough, He lets them run headfirst into destruction.
How Should Christians Respond?
Preach the Gospel: Their greatest need isn’t an argument—it’s salvation.
Pray for Conviction: Pride must be broken before the heart can turn.
Stay Humble: Just because we didn’t go as far into sin doesn’t mean we weren’t just as lost.
Proverbs 8:13 sums it up: “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
The Only Answer Is Christ
Pride must be broken. Sin must be confessed. The only hope for this world is Jesus Christ.
This month, instead of focusing on what the world is doing, why not make it a time for outreach? What if we used this month to share the gospel more than ever before?
The world exalts pride. But we exalt Christ.
Which side will you stand on?
