Church Life in Cookeville Tennessee | Some Things You'll Notice About Our Church.

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

01

We Preach & Teach from the Bible

The biggest emphasis you'll notice is that we believe the Bible! We are a BIBLE believing church. Therefore, we teach & preach verse-by-verse through the scriptures, without correcting, changing or altering the text. We want you to understand WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS in its proper context. This is called rightly dividing the word of truth! It will safeguard you and your family from the dangers of dead religion, church politics, and denominational hierarchy.

02

We Sing Congregational Hymns

Conservative, congregational hymn singing allows all involved in our worship service to participate. The great hymns of the faith are rich in doctrine, and young children love memorizing the lyrics. Although there are many different ways to praise the Lord through psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, the Biblical truth in the old hymns can be enjoyed by every Christian young and old.

03

We Emphasize Public Ministry

We do not believe witnessing to the lost is a gift that some have, but rather we believe it is a command given to ALL Christians.

Additionally, we do not believe public evangelism is just the preachers "job", but rather that God commands every Christian to get involved.

With that said, we offer a variety of public ministry opportunities including gospel tract distribution, door knocking, open air preaching, holding scripture signs and house-to-house visitation. We also attend community fairs, festivals and parades to bring the saving gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to our community.

We also desire to start the following public ministries as the Lord provides the laborours: Good News Clubs, Nursing Home Ministry, Jail Ministry, and Discipled Veterans Ministry.

We do Not Have Business Meetings or Practice Church Voting

The Lord never instructed His church to conduct monthly business meetings and or to involve itself in congregational voting. Instead, our members are encouraged to pray, evangelize the lost, give, fellowship one with another, attend church services, sing to the Lord and love the brethren.

If we held monthly business meetings, it would take away time from the scriptural activities listed above. Plus, these types of meetings typically divide the brethren and give place for discord to be sown.

Praise the Lord, that business meetings and voting is not a command or ordinance given to the New Testament Church.

Our church has decided to be open to listening to ALL believers, so that we can understand the needs of our members. This gives the pastor time to seek the Lord in prayer and involve other leaders of the church to do the same. This is a simple, effective and BIBLICAL model of handling church matters.

05

We Do Not Pass an Offering Plate

Although there is nothing inherently wrong with passing an offering plate, we do feel it may embarrass someone who isn't prepared to give when the plate is passed. We also feel it may "guilt" someone into giving because the person sitting next to them gave.

We do NOT make emotional appeals for money, and we do NOT send out beg letters through mail or email. Instead, we fully trust the Lord will provide for us.

We DO believe it IS scriptural for a New Testament church to make a way for its members to give. For that reason, we have chosen to place an offering box in our church-house as a way for our members to give.

Those who would like to give to Pilgrim Baptist Church may do so by placing a donation in our offering box, by mailing a check, or by giving online through a credit or debit card.
