Are You Waiting for the "Perfect" Time to Share Your Faith?
Most Christians are sitting on the sidelines, waiting for ideal conditions before they step out in faith. They're watching the wind, checking the weather, and making excuses while souls hang in the balance.
But what if I told you that Jesus Christ Himself declared the harvest is ready right now? In John chapter 4, verse 35, Jesus said, "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."
Imagine the joy of being part of God's eternal harvest – not just watching from the sidelines, but actively participating in the greatest work on earth: winning souls to Christ.
It's time to stop making excuses and start sowing seed for the Lord.
The Spiritual Harvest Never Has Seasons
In John 4:34-35, Jesus teaches His disciples a profound truth about spiritual farming versus physical farming:
"Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."
Physical crops have set seasons. In summer, you get peppers, squash, watermelon, and corn. But spiritually speaking, there are no seasons. You don't have to sit around and wait for four months. Spiritually speaking, it's always sowing time and it's always harvest time.
Look at the woman at the well – she received Jesus Christ, and the next thing you know, she's out sowing seed. That's how it works in the spiritual realm.
What Does "White Already to Harvest" Really Mean?
When Jesus said the fields are "white already to harvest," He wasn't talking about grain. He was talking about people's hearts that are prepared and ready to receive Jesus.
The word "white" is used throughout Scripture in reference to people:
Daniel 12 talks about many being "purified and made white"
Isaiah 1:18: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow"
Revelation 7 speaks of those who "have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb"
Jesus is teaching us that people are ready to be harvested. Their hearts are prepared. Don't sit around waiting – get busy with spiritual farming!
Stop Watching the Wind and Start Sowing
Ecclesiastes 11:4 delivers a hard-hitting truth: "He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap."
Here's the problem: If you're so focused on conditions, you'll talk yourself out of sowing. You'll say:
"It's too windy, Lord"
"The conditions aren't right"
"People won't listen today"
But here's reality – you're going to get wind coming at you from every direction. You can't control the wind, so why blame it for your lack of action?
If you allow your difficulties to stop you from sowing, you're never going to reap.
Parents, do you really allow your kids to use wind as an excuse not to do their chores? Of course not! So why do we allow ourselves to use "conditions" as an excuse not to do our spiritual duty?
The Power of One Good Conversation
People today underestimate the power of one good conversation. Who would have thought the woman at the well would end up doing what she did? People viewed her as the lowest of the low – someone to avoid, someone who would hurt their reputation.
But this woman turned that town upside down. She got it. And Jesus was trying to get His disciples to get it like that woman got it.
The fields are white because it's a mixed field – not for Jews only, but for Gentiles, Jews, Samaritans. It's for everybody, and it's all ready to harvest.
Why We Don't See Results (And Why That's Okay)
John 4:36 says, "And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto eternal life: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together."
Here's the truth: All the sowing, all the reaping, all the harvesting we do – we're not going to see the results this side of heaven. But when we get to heaven, we are going to be rejoicing together with our brothers and sisters in Christ about the results we couldn't see.
Stop worrying about results and look out into the fields. They're white already to harvest. Jesus said we're going to "rejoice together."
Every Christian Is Called to Sow
In Matthew 13, Jesus taught us what to sow: the seed, which is the Word of God. And what did we learn from those parables? Stop worrying about the conditions. Just get out there and sow.
Whether you're in the morning of your life (young) or the evening of your life (older), Ecclesiastes 11:6 commands: "In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand."
You might not be able to do what you could when you were 25, but you can do something else. Don't act like you're not in a season where you can be used by God.
Sowing in Tears, Reaping in Joy
Psalm 126:5-6 gives us this beautiful promise:
"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
You know why we don't go out for souls? Because we don't weep over souls. We don't see in our mind that if that soul dies without Jesus Christ, they're on their way to hell.
We'll cry over a tomato patch that we lose, but we won't cry or weep over the souls of men and women who need Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Let's weep over souls instead of fighting with each other.
You're Part of a Bigger Picture
Jesus said in John 4:38: "I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours."
Sometimes you get to reap what someone else sowed. Other times, you sow and someone else reaps. The Old Testament prophets sowed seed in that Samaritan woman's life – she knew about Jacob's well, she knew about the coming Messiah. When Jesus arrived, He got to reap what others had sown.
As 1 Corinthians 3:6-8 reminds us:
"I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one; and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour."
You plant, someone else waters, but God gives the increase. Your job isn't to save souls – that's God's job. Your job is to be faithful in sowing and watering.
We Are Laborers Together WITH God
Here's the most beautiful truth from this passage: 1 Corinthians 3:9 doesn't just say we're "laborers together for God" – it says we are "labourers together with God."
When you go out and sow seed, you're not just doing it for God. You are laboring WITH God. Christ lives in you, and you get to work alongside the Creator of the universe in the greatest work on earth.
The Savior of the World
John 4:42 gives us the conclusion: "Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world."
Not just the Savior of the Jews, but the Savior of the world. Ruth was a Moabite. Rahab was a harlot. The woman at the well was living in sin. David was a murderer. But Jesus came for all of them.
Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. Do you know Him? More importantly, are you telling others about Him?
Stop Making Excuses and Start Sowing
The fields are white already to harvest. People are ready. Hearts are prepared. The only question is: Will you lift up your eyes and see what God sees?
Stop worrying about:
Perfect conditions
What people will think
Whether you'll see results
Your own inadequacy
Start focusing on:
The eternal destiny of souls
The privilege of working with God
The joy of the harvest
Your calling as a Christian
The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Will you be one of the few who answer the call?
