How to Share the Gospel

Are You Struggling to Share the Gospel Effectively?

When it comes to witnessing to the lost, many Christians find themselves at a loss for words. You know the gospel is true, you know people need Jesus, but how do you communicate these life-changing truths in a way that cuts through to the heart?

The answer lies in understanding the 7 biblical truths every lost person must understand before they can truly comprehend their need for salvation.

The Problem: Most People Don't Understand Their True Condition

Here's the reality that might make you uncomfortable: most people walking this earth have no idea how lost they truly are. They've been deceived into thinking they're "good enough" or that their good works will somehow balance out their sin. But as Scripture makes crystal clear, this couldn't be further from the truth.

The Psalmist wrote it plainly: "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good" (Psalm 14:1).

7 Biblical Truths Every Lost Person Must Understand

1. They Are Corrupt and Have Done No Good

This is where effective witnessing must begin - with the hard truth about human nature. People need to understand they're not just "imperfect" or "making mistakes." They are fundamentally corrupt.

Romans 3:10 declares: "As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one."

Notice that little phrase "no not one" - God throws those reminders in there just in case we missed it the first time. And verse 23 drives it home: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

In Romans 5:12, we see the root of this corruption: "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."

Your witnessing must help people understand that our final authority isn't their opinion or feelings - it's Scripture. As Galatians 3:22 puts it: "But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe."

2. They Will End Up in Hell Because of Their Sin

Here's where many Christians get squeamish, but you cannot skip this truth. Hell is real, and God's wrath is already abiding on every lost person.

Genesis 2:17 shows us God's standard: "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Romans 6:23 connects the dots: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

James 1:15 shows the progression: "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

Revelation 21:8 lists the final destination: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Notice "all liars" is on that same list with murderers. Have you ever lied? Then you're on the same list.

John 3:36 makes it personal: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

3. There Is Absolutely No Way They Can Save Themselves

This is crucial - people must understand that their good works, their religious activities, their moral efforts are completely worthless when it comes to salvation.

Titus 3:5 couldn't be clearer: "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost."

Galatians 2:16 reinforces this: "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."

Ephesians 2:8-9 drives the point home: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

John 6:44 shows our complete helplessness: "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."

4. Jesus Christ Is the Only Way - Not One of Many Ways

We live in a culture that wants to add Jesus to their shelf of idols, but that's not the gospel. Jesus isn't one option among many - He's the ONLY option.

Jesus said it Himself in John 14:6: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Notice those definite articles - THE way, THE truth, THE life. Not "a way" but "THE way."

John 10:9 adds: "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."

Acts 4:12 removes all doubt: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

That's exclusive, and it needs to be. There's no salvation in any other name - not your family name, not your religious leader's name, not your guru's name. Only Jesus.

5. They Are Dirty and Need to Be Cleaned and Redeemed

People need to understand they're not just "imperfect" - they're filthy before a holy God and need supernatural cleansing.

1 John 1:7 gives us hope: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

Romans 3:24 shows us redemption: "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."

Hebrews 10:10 shows the one-time sacrifice: "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."

Hebrews 7:25 shows the complete salvation: "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

6. They Must Believe ON Jesus Christ

There's a difference between believing IN Jesus (the devils do that and tremble) and believing ON Jesus for salvation.

John 3:14-16: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 1:12: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."

Acts 16:31 gives the simple answer: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."

Romans 10:9: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

This isn't just head knowledge - it's a heart confession. Are you crying out to the Lord in true heartfelt confession?

7. They Must Repent

This is the word that makes people uncomfortable today, but it's essential. Repentance means turning from sin and turning toward God.

Acts 20:21: "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 2:4: "Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?"

2 Peter 3:9: "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

The Solution: Armed with Scripture and Led by the Spirit

When you're witnessing to someone, you don't need to overwhelm them with six or seven verses on each point. Pick one or two that the Holy Spirit leads you to use. But you DO need to understand these 7 biblical truths every lost person must understand so you can guide lost souls to genuine salvation.

Remember, you can't argue someone into the kingdom of God. You can't fact-check them into salvation. But you can present these biblical truths with love, compassion, and the authority of Scripture, trusting the Holy Spirit to do His work of conviction and drawing.

Your Next Steps in Biblical Witnessing

  1. Study these seven points until they're second nature - Know where to find these verses quickly

  2. Pray for opportunities - Ask God to bring lost people across your path

  3. Trust the Holy Spirit - He's the one who convicts and draws people to salvation

  4. Show the goodness of God - Your testimony and how you treat people gives them a glimpse of God's character

  5. Don't compromise the message - These truths may be hard to hear, but they're necessary for genuine salvation

The gospel isn't about making people feel good about themselves - it's about showing them their desperate need for a Savior and pointing them to the only One who can save them.
