A Place of Worship, Fellowship, and Bible Teaching
At Pilgrim Baptist Church, we believe church isn’t about buildings or programs—it’s about people. Our mission is to glorify God through expository preaching, heartfelt worship, and faithful outreach. Whether you’re a lifelong believer, a new Christian, or someone searching for answers, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere that emphasizes biblical truth and the grace of Jesus Christ.
What Makes Pilgrim Baptist Church Unique?
1. Strong Biblical Foundation
Pilgrim Baptist Church is a KJV-only, Bible-believing church. Our preaching is rooted in the inerrant Word of God, focused on expository teaching that walks through Scripture verse by verse. We don’t water down the Bible or the gospel—we proclaim it boldly.
2. Christ-Centered Worship
Our services are reverent and worshipful. We sing traditional hymns that glorify Christ, led by a faithful song leader that values doctrinal truth over entertainment.
3. Family-Oriented Ministry
From toddlers to seniors, Pilgrim Baptist Church welcomes families of all sizes and structures. Our family integrated Sunday School is a big hit, and ensures every generation is discipled.
4. Mission-Minded Outreach
Our church is actively involved in local evangelism, supporting missionaries worldwide, and sharing the love of Christ in tangible ways within Cookeville and surrounding communities.

Searching for a Church Near Me? Why Cookeville Chooses Pilgrim
When new residents of Cookeville or students at Tennessee Tech University Google “church near me”, Pilgrim Baptist Church consistently ranks as a top recommendation. Why? Because we offer more than religious rules or religious tradition—we offer Jesus Christ and His Word!
We’re not trying to entertain you or impress you—we want to introduce you to the Savior who changes lives. Our uncompromising stance on Scripture, warm fellowship, and Christ-exalting services make us a refuge in a world that’s increasingly adrift.
Core Beliefs of Pilgrim Baptist Church
The Bible
We believe the original manuscripts were given by inspiration of God and were without error. We believe the God who gave His word to man has taken upon Himself the responsibility for its preservation. We believe the incorruptible word of God which cannot pass away is available to the English-speaking world in the Authorized (King James) Version. We believe every word in the King James Bible is pure, exact and needs no changing, correcting or altering whatsoever. This Bible serves as our final authority.
The Trinity
We believe in the Trinity. We believe there is one God eternally existent as the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost. We believe God to be the Creator and sustainer of all things visible and invisible. We believe the universe and all that is therein to be held together by the word of His power. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ to be God manifest in the flesh, virgin born, without sin, crucified, risen and coming again to receive His church, then returning to establish His kingdom.
Salvation by Grace
We believe salvation is by grace through faith in the finished cross work of Jesus Christ. We believe that man-centered, human-effort plays no part at all in true biblical salvation. We believe in the eternal security of the believer. We affirm that all who have placed their faith and trust in Christ are safely secure and sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church
We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the church. We believe both spiritual and temporal matters should be handled in strict accordance to the word of God. We believe that salvation is what makes someone a member of the body of Christ. We further believe that those saved members of the body of Christ should gather themselves in a local church to serve and minister to each other.
We Beleive in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture
We believe that Jesus Christ will rapture His church BEFORE the tribulation. We are looking for that blessed hope when Christ comes for His saints where we are 'caught UP' to meet the Lord in the air. We believe the Lord will return to earth for His 2nd coming AFTER the 7-year period known as Daniel's Seventieth Week. At the end of this 7-year period, Christ will personally and visibly return to earth with His saints, to establish his earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel.

Testimonials From the Pilgrim Church Family
“I am so thankful that I found these folks & this place. God-fearing, Bible believing!” – Scott Roach, Pilgrim member
“Pilgrim Baptist is the most welcoming, family-friendly, Bible-based church I’ve ever been to. In just a few short months, my faith and understanding of the Bible has deepened tremendously. My children are learning and understanding thanks to Pastor Jimmy’s preaching and involvement of the children in the Sunday school lessons. In addition, the congregation is like family. Everyone looks out for one another, prays for one another, and we genuinely enjoy doing life together both inside the church walls and out. If you’re looking to grow in your faith, to truly understand God’s Word and will for your life, and to live out your Christianity in your daily life, Pilgrim Baptist will surely help you in all of these ways. And you’ll gain a wonderful church family in the process!” – Kimmie Pitman, Pilgrim member

A great desire to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ" – Eric Martinez, Pilgrim member
